Vaginal Birth Video Animation

by Shirley

This child birth video clearly shows the dilation and effacement of the cervix and the descent and rotation by a baby during a vaginal birth.

From the position of the spinal cord, one can see that this animation shows a birth with the mother in a reclined position. Watch how the baby actually has to be pushed slightly 'uphill' before he emerges from the mother's body.

If a woman giving birth assumed an upright position, the baby could descend with the help of gravity, instead of against gravity, which would facilitate the process of giving birth.
